  • Shield and Storm: 20th Anniversary of the Persian Gulf War. - 01/14/2011 - 06/25/2011 The South Carolina Confederate Relic Room & Military Museum commemorates the anniversary of the First Persian Gulf War (August 1990-February 1991), with the exhibit: Shield and Storm: 20th Anniversary of the Persian Gulf War. This exhibit examines multiple aspects of the conflict, particularly the involvement of South Carolinians and explores three main aspects of the war. The air campaign featuring the SC Swamp Fox Air National Guard F16A Fighter Squadron, the ground campaign featuring the SC Army National Guard and Fort Jackson and a general overview of the conflict will be the highlights of the exhibit.
  • 48th Annual Boat Show 2011 - 02/11/2011 - 02/13/2011 The 48th Annual Boat Show will take place at the South Carolina State Fairgrounds February 11th - 13th featuring 12 area boat dealers and over 40 additional exhibitors.

    Wall-to-wall boats and accessories will pack all six buildings at The State Fairgrounds. Runabouts, sport boats, fishing boats, cruisers, personal watercraft, jet boats, and high-performance boats-everything from 12 to 30 feet will be ready to board and buy!

    The Annual Boat Show is the largest and longest running boat show in the Midlands and this annual event shows no sign of slowing down. Mid-Carolina Marine's Taylor Smith, says, "With almost all the area boat dealers participating it really makes the show a special event. With so many different boats and manufacturers represented consumers can see just about any boat that's out there. We'll have over 200 boats on display this year."

  • Runaway Runway: Recycling Fashion - 01/26/2011 - 02/20/2011 2010 Runaway Runway designs are on view in this special invitational installation. Now in its fourth year, the Columbia Design League's Runaway Runway annual fundraiser is Columbia's premier fun and funky fashion show that aims to raise design and environmental awareness though the use of post-consumer materials constructed into fantastic freestyle fashions. While the entire world is serious about sustainability, this event proves green can be fabulous, fashionable and fun! The competition features clothing created by designers using items destined for the landfill. The 2011 Runaway Runway is on Friday, April 29.

  • Animal Grossology - 02/05/2011 - 05/01/2011

    Explore the disgusting side of science with some of the slimiest, stinkiest and downright yuckiest creatures on earth in this new blockbuster exhibition. Featuring sophisticated animatronics, interactive learning games, and imaginative animated characters adapted from the best-selling Grossology children's book series by author/science teacher Sylvia Branze. Oozing with disgusting science and interactive learning games, this exhibit is sure to provide a unique perspective on the animal kingdom.

    Fifteen hands-on stations feature such gross subjects as "Dung Ball Rally," "Blood Sucker Blow-up" and "The Slime Game" that teach lessons such as how the waste of some animals actually helps others survive, ways to avoid diseases such as Lyme or West Nile, and that slime serves many important functions for animals, from facilitating motion to digestion to defense.
